A 6:38 Challenge?
Oct 7, 2009
Springing from the verse in Luke 6, we hope to keep launching ourselves into a lifestyle of sacrificial giving. Humbly presuming upon God’s abundant resources, we view ourselves as rich in a way that isn’t easily measured…and it is from that space that we faithfully attempt to be a blessing wherever and whenever we can…as a church corporate and as a church of individuals.
Here’s the hitch. The challenge to be involved in ministry…compassion…giving…mercy… finds its longest and highest flight on the wings of individual passions and partnerships. That is, in our opinion, community impact is most effective, efficient and expansive as individuals get involved in what is already going on around them rather than the “church” creating a new initiative…although there is a critical space for those things too.
So, the Vista 6:38 Challenge goes a little something like this: “Everyone should consider how they can be involved in their community. And those of you that are involved, Vista would be privileged to let others know how they can jump on board with you.” Involvements might include such things as Habitat for Humanity, Leadership Dublin, Youth for Christ, Cancer Society, Local Government, Pregnancy Health Decision Center (PDHC), Welcome Warehouse, Clothing Drives, HIV/AIDS Awareness, Parent-Teacher Organizations, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), United Way, English as a Second Language (ESL), Young Life, School Board, Special Olympics, Better Way (Homeless) Ministry, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc…
So, discover your passions, find an existing ministry partner, spend some time practicing and then let’s try to help others participate with you! After all, we didn’t originate the 6:38 challenge – it exists throughout scripture – it’s God’s idea. Get out there and believe in God…
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

I have been working in the Homeless ministry area for over a year now and would love for people to join me.
How do we get started?

How exciting! One of the first execs I met in my new consulting assignment was a sales VP who worked for the company for 10 years , then left to become an associate pastor at a local church for four years; and has now returned to the company. He had been a supervising pastor over the small group ministry for a church of , I believe about 16,000 people. He was happy, doing what he wanted but appears to have accepted God’s call to move his ministry back to the workplace. He is still active in the church, in small groups and in his community and now back in his workplace. He continues to expand his ministry.
